Based on the information you have provided, it's probably a yes, as it was when he was young. If you he has kept his nose perfectly clean and not come to police attention since then and all is as you report then I very much doubt it would have any effect - though it should be declared.

With all this said, there is nearly always a lot more to the story than comes up in the first couple of posts, if/when more comes out we may discover things to be different.

When I applied for my ticket I couldnt remember all my motoring offenses, I just put down what I could remember and wrote a letter to accompany my application explaining that the information wasnt accurate. :hmm: At the interview the FEO told me that there wasn't an issue with my submission as I had been completely truthful.

As the previous post said join BASC, CPSA etc. they will give you all the help you need, so long as your name isn't Martin M from NI.

one of the guys i know from a local shoot was charged with a firearm offence when he was 14 for having a tranqulizer gun.

it was the only time he has even been arested and at the age of 28 was granted a SGC, like i have said before FLO's are not there to spoil the fun just to assess the risk to the public and prevent any nut cases getting hold of a gun

Precisely the point.

The fact that someone has convictions, cautions, etc, isn't really the point. The issue is whether the person in question is 'fit to be entrusted' with a firearm. A conviction, per-se, doesn't mean that someone is unfit. A relatively common conviction for shooters to have is 'tresspass with a firearm' which sounds very serious (it's a firearms offence) but in most cases is just poaching.
