32gram is a lot of lead! I have a 70 year old mate, (who was visiting here this afternoon) who uses no more than 19 grams in his 28 gauge reloads. His kill rate is excellent.

When I shot pigeon in the early 1960s, I based my reloads on Eley Impax with one ounce (28.4 gram) of No. 6 shot. That was in the days of Nobel 60 powder. Impax was a much shorter case.

I still reload the 65mm or 67mm case and use Vectan A1 powder for fibre. (however, there will be some who will recommend using As powder)

To get my Lee LoadAll to load 65mm, I shortened the final crimp chamber length to 62mm. This does not affect the loading of 70mm cases.

The bushes can be made adjustable by drilling through the flat part and screwing in suitable BRASS cheese-head set-pin.

I also cut slots in the aluminium front panel to facilitate this feature. The are photos somewhere on this site of this modification.

The primers you will require are Cheddite CX2000 or Fiocchi 616 or UEE 209 or Martignoni 688. On the subject of primers, Cheddite will be too loose a fit in shells that were originally fitted with the others listed.

beer,

the actual recipe and the combination of components that make the shell. not the reloader. i`ve made lemons on a fantastic MEC. but i`ve also made brilliant ammo.

finding the right recipe for what you want is the best start. then buy the components, then shoot em.

the recipe tell you more than you think, and the actual reload proof data tells you a lot what is taken for granted.

if you are after a like for like load with factory, then there are multiple loads available. i can say that vectan A1 is probly the best bet to buy. they have 32g loads that go 1300fps, that should be adequate for pigeons.

other loaders will be able to tell you the better loads, i rarely load up full fat loads thesedays. i`ve just started experiments with new powders.

even the worst reloading machines can make the best ammunition. its all in the recipe, finding a good one is 90% of the battle. after that its easy.
