wildfowlingmad
Not been on a morning flight for a while but will be going on one tomorrow and i have lost track of when first light will be.. I know sunrise is about 8.10. Im sure ive read somewhere its an hour before making just after 7. Also the moon is going to go down at 6.15 so would it be worth getting down before then but then having a black out period before 1st light..? any advise would be apreciated. Hope everyone had a good christmas!!
Albert 888
I like to be early,as in set up and ready to shoot 2hours before surise. First good light dependant on weather is usually an hour before like you say. You cant be to early only to late. Have a good trip out in the morning. Dee Wildfowler
Hope the following helps. If I was going out tomorrow morning I would think about the following. Sunrise in this part of the country is 0817, I like to be in place and ready 1 hour and 10 minutes before sunrise. On arriving at my shooting spot I need 10 minutes to put out the decoys and put up some netting for a hide. It's 40 minutes walk from the car park to my spot and 20 minutes drive from home to the car park, and I get up 15 minutes before leaving the house so I set the alarm 2 hours and 35 minutes before sunrise according to the tide book. When there's still a moon when I'm going out, I allow another 15 minutes in case the birds fly a little earlier in the extra light. If you make an allowance for the time it takes for the drive and to walk out to your shooting spot, then the above will work in most parts of the country, but then of course, there's the tide to be considered. In the North West the highest tides are mid-day and mid-night but in some parts they are more like dawn and dusk. John
wildfowlingmad
Thanks for that, got the timeings bang on in the end, a cracking little flight only one teal for show for it but there were ducks everywhere, great fun. I will remember that hour and 10 mins before sunrise seemed about right to me. Thanks again.
