Grandalf
On the other hand you could have got up at 0430 to go 'fowling because it was going to be foggy. Perfect on our estuary. Drove there in fog. Two miles out and the fog cleared and there I was sitting in a not very good hide looking at the sun coming up into a clear blue sky! One mallard and four hours later - Couldn't stand the sun's rays any longer so packed up - Drove home in thick fog which hasn't cleared all day. And I live just ten 'crow' miles from the marsh. The local pigeons that live in the trees at the end of my garden are walking due bad visibility! I shall try again tomorrow... Grandalf
But yesterday was very different. Up at 0300hrs for the fowling up in Norfolk (Other side of the county boundary). Have to allow extra time for passport checks etc at the border. Anyway, yesterday was low cloud and drizzle. Perfect for what I had in mind. Hour drive, hour walk, set-up hide and 'coys. Hour wait and then the action. Pinkfooted geese in their thousands. Milling about all over the place and completely disorientated in the mist. Shot my bag limit - 4 - and handed hide over to my neighbour who didn't have any 'coys out. Then the rain stopped but it had done its work. A good flight. Now for the plucking...
