Winter Rape - It's impossible! Plus thanks for advice.

Evening all

Been decoying for about a year or so.

Managed to secure some winter rape about 3 months ago and it's been OK, been able to still get quite a few, they don't seem to have flocked up too much and was getting decent bags.

Anyway, last wknd secured some new land, it's only 6 miles away from where I live and got loads of winter rape - pleased as punch as all my other land is 20 miles plus, so it's absolutley great to have some local land. Keen to impress the farmer I took Friday off work, walked the land, worked out where's safe to shoot (farmer also runs a livery for 50 horses so I have to be careful). The new land is a pigeon decoyers dream, EVERY field has a strip around it designed for the horses to hack, but easily big enough for me to get the Landrover down, there's woods and plenty of roost shooting. So I turned up today, plan in mind, spent and hour putting bags in all the other rape fields, even parked the rover in a prominant place on another field to add the the scare.

I shot one pigeon in about 3 hours, there was loads of pigeon when I arrived by they just went and never can back.

Seen people posting on here about how hard winter rape is, and because I'm new to shooting AND had some other winter rape - couldn't understand what they were talking about, now I do! LOL!!!

On a separate note - just joined the forum and put a couple of posts on here about advice on crow shooting, and also my Unico wasn't cycling. I'd like to say a BIG BIG thanks to everyone how gave me advice and you've completely solved my problems. I now keep my cartridges in the warm, and the tips you all gave on crow shooting were spot on. Went Friday and really bagged up, got 20 plus in 2 hours on a piggery, might give up winter rape and crow shoot! Oh, and the primos crow called a winner, was drawing the little critters in from 500 yards, only to find me popping up from behind my hide and nailing them, got a few lefts and rights (with a 3 shot!).

Loving the forum, defo beats trying to explain all this stuff to my girlfriend!

Beware the forum might take over from your girlfriend.
