bicykillgaz
Hi I've bought some stainless countersunk hex bolts to replace my action and barrel lug bolts on my rimfire. I've been looking online and read that the best bolt torque is generally between 18-22ft/lb so figured I'd go for 20ft/lb. However the action bolt has sheared the insides of the hex so is now stuck. I've had a good look and to me it appears to be made of a different grade of stainless to the barrel lug bolt which is fine and seems a lot harder material. Anyone got any ideas as to how I can remove it without risking damage to my gun? Cheers Gary
V8 90
Measure the thread of the replacement bolt then drill the head out/off the seized bolt using a drill of the same size. If you can put your gun in a vice (protect with soft jaws/cloth) or use a pillar drill - use a slow drilling speed too. bicykillgaz
I think somewhere I've got a screw extractor would that work or is drilling the best method? Thanks for the quick reply.
V8 90
I would just drill it out as you have replacements to hand - the threaded stub will unscrew easily once the stock is removed.

bicykillgaz
Cheers V8 90 I'll give it a go tomorrow as I'll have to borrow the drill bit from work as all mine are masonry bits. Thanks for the replies.
