ME
ME Jnr wants to start his own website about gaming. I could set him up on my hosting quite easily, but would rather that he used a web-builder type format. Is Wordpress a good option for him? Daks
Wordpress would be a good option, it's tried and tested, Joomla is also a good option. The only issues with free hosting websites is search engine meta placement, you can't beat a real domain for indexing and traffic. Would be a great time to introduce Jnr into HTML, try w3schools and have a look at your options.
ME
It is just going to be a hobby site so search shouldn't matter really. You can buy SEO plugins for Wordpress if you want to get serious. He is a bit flighty and might be on to something else next month, so I thought if he learnt Wordpress then it might be a challenge. He wants to edit colours, add videos etc etc. I thought Wordpress and Joomla would be a good flexible option. I could set him up on my FTP with a template site and he could play with the HTML, but I know he will delete something he shouldn't - because we have all done it! Markio
www.weebly.com Brilliantly easy web building, if you can use PowerPoint you can use this, all drag and drop. For free you get the tools to build the site and hosting on a weebly subdomain. I've built a couple of sites with it. Google maps, google calendars to import, YouTube embedding etc. You can even stuff in a free forum section or blog. The pro paid for version allows for password protected pages and some other stuff i haven't really thought about needing.
