caeser
I went out yesterday with PW member 'limestone cowboy'. We arrived at about 9.00am to quite heavy fog. Firstly went for a walk about the wood, where we were planning on roost shooting. Didn't see much in the wood in the fog. A couple of hours later we walked to 2 rape fields very close to the wood where we knew the pigeons were feeding hard. Fog still thick, we stood next to a hedge, which turned out to be right under the flight line from the wood to the fields. we had a great time there for about half an hour or so, with pigeons just appearing out of the thick fog overhead, and several hitting the ground, succumbing to 32gr 6's. But the fog started to thin out, and the conditions changed ,so it was time to move to the wood. Snow was starting to thaw out now, and the shooting was a bit slow to start with, but as the afternoon went on, it got better. Roost shooting is so fast and challenging, I love it. We ended up with total bag of over 30 birds hitting the ground. I say approximately because ,we lost count, and we lost a few birds. High shot birds coming down, about 80-100yards away in a thick wood, made it really difficult to find some of them. (Sometimes you just need a dog, but thats another matter.) Packed in just before dark. Great day. I took a couple of pictures with my phone. Nothing exciting but I'll show them anyway. The first one is in the morning, Mike (limestone cowboy) strolling through the large wood, waiting for something to burst out of the treetops. Second one ,I just took about lunchtime, when I was having a coffee, with a couple of birds in the bag. The sun was out, and the snow gone from that area. limestone_cowboy
Big thanks to Caeser (again) for another really top day out! Everything just seemed to fall into place, which made for a very sporting day. Shot of the day went to Caeser, a crow at at least 60-70 yds away. As the crow dropped I definately heard it screaming profanities at the shooter because he thought he was out of range! Not so, Joe Crow! Cheers Steve! PS If Caeser makes an offer on here to go shooting, do NOt miss it. I willingly give the £25 towards the cost of fuel because it's proper "Old Schoool" value for money! (and always a great laugh too boot!!) regards LSC
