tiercel
Every year it's the same. It used to be Dad now it's Dadcu (Grandad in welsh) will you make Toffee Apples for us? It could not be simpler (but dont tell them that). I tell them that it is a receipe that my mother used to make. To make 10 toffee apples and still have enough over to make some nut brittle, you need. 10 Wooden skewers. 10 Apples washed and dried. (smaller apples are the best) For the toffee you need 500g of Soft brown sugar. 50g of Unsalted butter 2 Tablespoons of Golden Syrup. 10 Tablespoons of water. 2 Teaspoons of vinegar. You will also need a large bowl of cold water, and a tray covered in buttered greaseproof paper. Just dump that lot in a large saucepan, bring to the boil and boil till the setting point is reached. You can tell when it has reached setting point as it will be brittle when dropped into a bowl of cold water. Then simply dip the apples on their skewers into the toffee, then straight into the cold water and place on the tray. Any toffee mixture that you have left you can pour into a buttered dish with some peanuts spread over the dish, to give you your nut brittle. Result Some happy kids and a grateful wife B)
