mick miller
Testing the water. Some time ago Dave-G organised a group buy for the Ash Horton (ahorton) aspherical lenses. Ash has upgraded his design and as I was about to buy one of these from him I wondered whether there was any interest from the PW community to buy one of these lens kit? I know some folk missed out last time. If you haven't read through Dave's thread you can buy a small Ultrafire torch with red LED off eBay for £12, with the lens kit fitted it will turn a 80 yard spread into a 150 yard beam (maybe more). Dave has also been experimenting with using a IR drop-in the same type that has been used on the NiteMaster 800ir torch, although the lens and aperture isn't as large as the NiteMaster Dave's results look good. Hopefully he can enlighten us further as to the approximate reach of the Oslon black emitter used with the aHorton lens? Anyway, I digress. As discounts are offered if we get to 10 or 15 units I wondered whether at least ten of us would be interested in a kit? Not sure on prices as I guess there will be a H.M. Customs charge, postal recharge and final delivery cost to be added to the price of AUS $30 (10) or AUS $24 (15) each but it's likely to be better than just ordering one unit for yourself. Over to you. Mick.
mick miller
Righto, seems there's no interest in this. I'll just order one for myself then!
bazzab
****** i def would be interested. For my NV set up. Typical only just seen it!!
mick miller
Well, it's not been ordered yet. I'll give this thread a week or so and see if it generates enough interest. Standard price for one, excluding customs and Royal Mail charges is $55 AUS, so $25 AUS is a good saving if we can get another nine people on-board. mick miller
I used the teeny UltraFire with the Oslon black drop-in last night and a standard glass filter and I'd say it's about 2/3rds of the reach of the NS200 illuminator on max. I reckon the AHorton will nearly double the throw thus extending the range of my NS200 somewhat. Plus I get a nifty little red spotting torch as well if I throw the red cree in. mick miller
Andy, check your PM, the C8 is too big for this lens. The 501-b is available off eBay for £12 with red led and pressure switch, okay for airgun and with the new lens, rimfire. Probably a bit under powered for centrefire though. Chuck an Oslon black IR pill in as recommended by Dave-G and it becomes a great little IR thrower, but not a competitor to the NightMaster 800. Good for rimfire though. Dave's really done all the work on this and his knowledge is way ahead of mine. Edited March 14, 2013 by mick miller

mick miller
You might find that your dark spot isn't a flaw, it;s more often known as a doughnut. You want to somehow move your emitter a little further forward, perhaps by removing some material from the front of the reflector. Again I'm no expert on this but I've read a few reviews where this doughnut has appeared on some torches and by adjusting the position of the emitter, been fixed. mick miller
Okay, so I can get four kits for $35 AUS minus customs and Royal Mail forwarding charges. I want two so that's leaves two free to anyone that may want one of these? Mick Miller 2 x AHorton Lens & Spacer Kits
mick miller
Righto, this is now closed. If anyone wants one of these in the next week you'll need to head over to the nightvisionuk forum and post in the thread in the illumination section. Thanks for looking. mick miller
Right for those who don't want to join another forum... I'm back.So to kick off here's the list of who wants a lens. I'll PM the folk on here for a £20 deposit to my paypal account. Please pay this as a gift or money owed, that way if for any reason the buy falls through (say some of the folk off #### let me down) I can refund the amount in full, no fees deducted. At the moment we're only up to six, that's one from here and two from NVF, plus my mate Mark who is utterly computer illiterate.Me (Mick Miller NVF & PW) - x2 - Deposit £40Mark - x1 - Deposit £20Nial (PW) - x1 - Deposit £0Iowphil (NVF) - x1 - Deposit £0Paddywhack (NVF) - x1 - Deposit £

mick miller
Iowphil has sadly pulled out so there are only five on order. Looking at Ash's email that makes them $30uas per unit (so about £20.65 each minus customs and parcel farce plus onward posting). Fingers crossed there are fewer units than Some Blokes group buy over on PW so hopefully less postal costs and customs charges (may even get under the minimum limit for charges?). UK Custom Charges All other goods If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you: don't have to pay Excise Duty may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135 will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15 Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under. So given that the VAT would be charged on a notional value of £120.50 that makes £24ish. liable which split five ways makes £4.80 each VAT exc. postage... it's a guestimate though.
