ferguson_tom
Hi Everyone All things going well we will be moving into our new house in the next few weeks and want to put a kennel with run in the garden for our collie and springer spaniel. Its not a massive garden so dont want it to be too big so was wondering what sort of size would be acceptable for them both. The dogs live in the house and they will continue to do so, we mainly want the kennel to give us a bit of flexibility when it comes to going out for the day without them or staying away for the night. They wont be living in in permanently never more than one day and night so i would think they dont need as much space as a dog who lives in theirs all the time. Luckily the garden is very secure and although a worry i think anyone would be hard pushed to know they are there let alone steal them. I was also thinking about building the kennel as part of a shed and having the run built off the side of it, does this work well or is there a good reason not to do it? Thanks in advance, Tom
JDFrain
i would say a small shed with about a six foot run built on the side would be more than ample, seen plenty kennels that size for dogs in there permanantly as long as they are getting plenty excercise then there shouldnt be any issues JDF
AlistairB
Mine have their inside kennel built into the shed with the main run outside (but roofed). Only tip for the inside is dont make it too big as it'll be hard for them to keep it warm in the winter unless you install heating. ferguson_tom
Thanks for the advice gents, i think I will go with the kennel inside the shed with the run out the side of it. Hopefully this will take up less space in the garden and also look smarter than having a loads of sheds in it. I will keep in mind about the keeping the kennel bit small as well, chances are in the winter i will sort some heating out as they are normally house dogs i think they will need something a bit extra as wont be used to it.
