HDAV
£500 buys alot of repairs...... Beretta don't need much.... And you'll loose less on it when you sell ( if you buy the used ones) you can buy extended chokes for any MC gun !!! The browning felt heavy but you were hitting birds with it... Isn't that the point?
djanyd1
yes i have taken that into consideration HDAV so my choice is not going to rest on a gun just because its new as from what i hear beretta are unlikely to go wrong. As regards to browning i am going to try a few more and if my shots are consistant on a browing over a berreta and it fits comfortably i may go with a browning in the end. Im still open to all my first options but as today gos with what i tried berretta came up as the more comfortable gun and i did hit a few clays after a few pointers from the guy at the shop. Im going to my local clay club tommorow and will try a few guns there too including a few trap guns.
djanyd1
Hello again guys my choice has been made. All week I felt beretta was best for me but I have, to my surprise gone with a browning. My Choice is the Browning ultra xs 30" sporter with adjustable stock. I’ve had loads of advice from many stores so was able to go in and make the decision on fit with the knowledge of how the fit should be. The guy in the store was really good and knew I had done my research and went through the fitting process and could pull out a selection of guns he knew would suit me and not just guns he wanted to sell. I always felt browning was a bit on the heavy side for me but as mentioned on one of the replies that turned out to be an advantage for myself as with the Berettas yes they had a nice balance and felt lighter but I was always shooting over the top. Browning on the other hand I was blowing the clays apart every time. This was also the case with the citori but the ultra xs just felt more balanced for me. The ultra xs is having a different recoil pad fitted and I will be collecting on Friday as well as having the comb adjusted for me. I'd like to thank everyone for your replies and sharing your knowledge with me; I have learnt so much over the past week and look forward to gaining consistent days on the clays with my new gun. I will also be taking a few lessons to correct my floors on the basics to clay shooting as this was noticed whilst testing a few guns. Thanks again all Andy
OvEr_KiLL
why the adjustable stock mate, was a normal browning sporter ie the citori not the right height for you? and as for shooting over the top, lean in more on your front foot, the lessons should help good luck and enjoy the new gun, im please you found one that fits you Edited April 23, 2013 by OvEr_KiLL
djanyd1
hello again Its been noted by many people i have a long neck and on most guns i feel uncomfortable due to the fact i have to come right down to the stock. The citori felt ok but at the time felt heavy to me. The adjustable stock on the ultra brings the stock up to a nice comfortable consistant mount which is what i want but also gives me the adjustment to get a better fit which i wouldnt have on a citori without paying to have the stock changed. Overall the ultra xs felt good and mounted nicely and just shows after trying so many guns in a week and thinking beretta is for me and browning is too heavy it can soon change when you find a nice fitting gun regardless of the brand and your first impressions of it. That is why i never cancelled out any options all brands and styles was considerd before making a decision. I am very happy with that decision and glad to part with such money to progress onto gaining consistant scores with a gun im comfortable with. Still have so much to learn tho Edited April 23, 2013 by djanyd1

bostonmick
hi,good to hear you got sorted,my take on it is you buy what you can afford and are happy to shoot with,i think there is a lot of **** talked about with guns for different disciplines i shoot al of them with the same gun a beretta 687eell 30 inch sporting, and it does a great job it is the person aiming the gun that does 99% of the job,i remember going shooting with my grandad years ago he shot for the irish national team and shot browning with fixed choke as that was all there was in them days the same gun for sporting dtl and game and he shot 100 straight most of the time up to when he was in his late seventies, you can get the same scores from a £100.00 gun as from a expensive one,i am reading with amusement all the hype around the new 692 and cant believe the ammount of people who are falling over themselves to buy one it will be a nice gun but wont hit anymore birds than any other gun.frame of mind is a big factor with shooting plan your shot stay calm if you miss a bird it will not be the guns fault i have had some real bargains come my way because people did not hit more with their new gun.anyway enjoy your shooting and dont get to wrapped up in all the bull and snobbery.good luck
