I have to agree once you have got a reputation for been reliable and safe the farms just seem to come with no effort..

I only started shooting again about 5yrs ago after my wife died.....

started with a mate on his neighbours farm he kept recommending me to other farmers ( we got 2 more yesterday while out with kdubya )

from a recommendation that makes a total of 32 farms i can shoot over now

so keep at it once it starts the flood gates can open :hmm: :hmm:

I think that you have to look at it from the farmers point of view, "what's in it for him"? Why should he let a couple of complete strangers wander over his land with guns? Would you?

Beating for a local shoot is as good a way as any of making contacts, most beaters are shooters.

When you approach a farmer for permission, if you have any skills that may be of use to him, e.g. you may be a welder or mechanic, there is always something on a farm that needs repair. Work in IT? he probably owns a computer, offer your services to him free. Offer him anything that you shoot, and take him a bottle of whisky at Christmas, he will remember it.

Remember that he is doing you a favour, you are not doing him one.

I shoot around 10,000 acres, what does it cost me? The odd afternoon mucking in with repairs, and four bottles of whisky at Christmas. In exchange for this I shoot everything from fox to pheasant and duck to pigeon and all for next to nowt.

Another point in selling yourself is BASC membership, 10 million quids worth of insurance is comforting to anyone considering letting strangers loose on their land with firearms.
