Looking For Some Advice - And Intro

Hi all,

I have been watching these forums for a while now but not posted until today, so I thought an intro from me was in order.

My name is Lee, I am a 34 year old Business Continuity Manager. Married, with a 10 year old son. I started getting interested in guns not so long ago and bought myself an RWS 500 (Air Ranger) since that point my son became interested in shooting. Rather than let him have an Air Rifle, I was more happy with him shooting a shotgun because it is generally done in controlled conditions (at a club)

To cut a long story short. I am **** at shooting but love it. My 10 year old is good and loves it, so we decided that we would take up clay shooting as a father and son hobby/sport.

My Question.....

I have only just gotten my SGC this week so will be spending at the weekend. Although we are getting training at Hawley Gun Club in Dartford what I really want to do is find some land local to me(Medway towns) I dont mind leasing it, or giving the land owner money. What I want to do is find enough land that I can buy a cheap trap and shoot until my heart is content.

Although I have not tried that hard to contact farmers, the general reaction is NO. I guess I am looking for some advice with regards with obtaining permission to shoot. like I said, I am not totally against paying for it, but a large sum of money would defeat the object.

Thanks for your time

Lee

I think what you need to do is ask if you can do some pest control first. Most farmers are unsure about letting a stranger on their land with a gun even if you are helping them out, which is fair enough if you think about it. To go and ask if you can shoot clays isn't a good idea in my opinion, I doubt very much that you will get any luck! After all, there's nothing in it for them and you will be making a bit of a mess with the broken clays too. Get some insurance, BASC is a good one, and work from there. Once you have a shoot, work on the clays later when the guy trusts you and knows you better.
