Big Dog
OK guys put me straight on this. The BASC state .240 calibre minimun for stalking. What guns does that cover at the lower end. I would have though it included .243 but from what I read no. So my .222 is out then That said I thought .222 was usable in Scotland but the BASC stuff didn't state that So hit me with the truth
Dunkield
BD, Bookmark this site , quite handy in your coming months: http://www.bds.org.uk/ England, Wales & Northern Ireland For deer of any species a minimum caliber of .240 inches (.236 inches in Northern Ireland) and a minimum muzzle energy of 1,700 foot pounds is the legal requirement. In Northern Ireland the minimum bullet weight is 100 grains. Scotland For deer of any species the bullet must weigh at lease 100 grains AND have a minimum muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second AND minimum muzzle energy of 1,750 foot pounds
rocksaplenty
I thought Defra were reviewing .22 for smaller deer. I presume that means munty and Chinese water deer, as it would be far to small for roe?
Dunkield
They have been 'reviewing' it for years, anyone waiting with their .22 C/F in the hands had better be patient.
rocksaplenty
It would be a mixed blessing if they did decide to go ahead. For all new .22 applications police would probaly require DSC or similar
M ROBSON
Stuartp, You forgot to add the rest, Scotland For deer of any species the bullet must weigh at lease 100 grains AND have a minimum muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second AND minimum muzzle energy of 1,750 foot pounds or For roe deer the bullet must weigh at least 50 grains AND have a minimum muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second AND a minimum muzzle energy of 1,000 foot pounds. BD, You can use your .222 for Roe only in Scotland. Mark.

M ROBSON
BD, In Scotland there are no mentions of minimum calibres just minimum bullet weight and velocity. It is all in the BASC Deer Stalking Code of Practice. Cheers, Mark.
