223 load data

Recommended Posts

got a load data for the 223 with reloader 15 starting at 25.3 grain to max 28.0 with a 55 grain jacketed bullet ,small rifle primer..my question is will it be ok to use a 55 grain hornday v-max bt bullet instead and does it matter which cases you use some data info mentions specific cases .any info gratefully received thanks

In a .223 case thats a compressed load so be careful you might try a faster powder to cut the load - I have used different bullets in various .223 cases and the load data I use only specifies the weight in grains not bullet type/manufacturer - I shoot 3 types including 40 and 50 grain hornady v - max and 50 blitzkings - all work v well but I dont crimp.

Cheers

I use Varget 26.5 grains with 55 V max good results. Also N133 with 25 grains and 53 V max are excellent, which I will be moving to when my Varget powder runs out.

You could perhaps use a bit faster burn rate than R15 with a 55 gr bullet. As stated N133 or AA 2230 will give you better velocity and very good accuracy. Nothing wrong with the powder chosen, it and Varget are very comparable burn rate wise. They are often used in .223 with heavy bullets.
