hawkeye
Thanks Colin. Next question: Do you have to declare ALL driving convictions as in speeding tickets? As section 14 of the Application (under notes) says "you are not entitled to withold information about any offence. This includes motoring convictions" Wasnt sure weather they meant drink driving level offences, or EVERYTHING! YES ALL
J@mes
Another one for those in the know: My loft is tiny. I mean really tiny as the house is 2 floors. There isnt room to stand up, only to kneel and crawl along. I have fitted some lighting today, and Im going to lay boarding across the joists too. there is about 6ft between the hatch and the wall where Im planning to mount the cabinet. Is the lack of space likely to be a problem? thanks
LeeH
Shouldn't be an issue, as long as you can access the cabinet easily, and it's position doesn't encourage you to start keeping your guns in the wardrobe. Is the loft ok regarding humidity? Big swings between bone dry and damp can seriously damage your expensive guns. I expect it's a new build so it's not much of a problem. How are you going to get a 30+ Kg, 4'6" long steel cabinet into the loft in the first place if space is so tight? Here's a thing; you aren't expected to compromise the structural strength of your house. My cabinet's fixed to the floor of my attic, but the bolts used are thinner than the Home Office regs as to use the full size bolts would have meant my attic floor would have become unsafe in the area of the cabinet. Can't fix the cabinet anywhere else due to the construction of my 150 year old walls, and the need of the cabinet to be out of sight of the CASUAL visitor. lee
J@mes
Hi Lee, thanks for the reply. I am planning to have a 2 gun breakdown cabinet, as this should fit nicely into the space I have and should also be easier to get into the loft, at 18ish KG. As the gun will have to be apart to go in the cabinet, i would do split it before taking it upto the loft, making manouvering much easier in the space. Damp/humidity wont be a problem i dont think, the loft space is reasonably warm but well ventilated.
