amp/hr

Looking at the batteries for the "moving" type of decoys and need the amp/hr explaining please.

12 volt7 amp/hr battery

12 volt 1.2 amp/hr battery

What does the hr stand for? Is it hour and if it is why.

I guess the 1.2 will last longer but how much longer or is that asking how long is a piece of string.

Thanks Adam

Adam,

Firstly, technical side of batteries, don't know mate!

However...a 1.2 amp/hr battery should power a pecking decoy for around 3 days, while a 7 amp/hr should see you alright for at least a week.

You would be wasting your money buying anything over 1.2 amp/hr to power a single decoy, but 7 amp/hr would run 3 plus decoys together all day long and then some...

Deako,

Thanks for the reply, are you stalking me

How about a revolving decoy ie "magnet" or the likes of.

I would like to get some of the moving types but unsure of what to get.

1st i spose are the landers (flapers on a bendy wire/rod)

2nd motorized feeding/peckers

3rd the revolving type.

Shouldn't think these come up on the for sale/swap very often. Bit like a P1 rear spoiler. (You know what i mean).

Friend of mine took delivery of a revolving type last week and we will be giving it a go tomorrow. lets hope he's charged the batteries :D

 The "technical bit" about batteries is, (as i was taught)as follows:

If for example a battery is rated at say 17amp/hour, this means that it will deliver 17 amps for one hours use from fully charged to going flat.

Therefore a device that uses 1.2 amps connected to a 17 a/h battery should last for 14 1/4 hours. (Battery rating divided by the consumption of the item connected to it ie 17 divided by 1.2 = 14.2)

Hope this bit of knowledge helps as it means my 5 year apprenticeship wasn,t a total waste afterall. :D
