ernyha
mahmood you wont do any good on wheat until it starts to ripen and parts of the crop gets laid either by storm damage or by crows. You can realistically forget any good shooting on it for at least 6 months in my opinion. :yp:
Deako
I'll second that.

Will Beasley
I'll second that. Well, I beg to differ. I've put many clients out on green wheat between mid September to the end of November and had great success however the criteria for setting a client out on a green wheat field were when birds were either A: Flighting to rest on said field, maybe out of a strong wind for example. B: Flighting over said field to an adjacent field ( maybe rape nextdoor for example ) or C: Flighting to feed on said field. Points A and B should need no explaining but point C might seem odd. Ok its what we call "back-feeding" round this part of the world. After the wheat has been drilled and its just coming through an inch or more high pigeons seem to take an interest in it again. We've opend up some crops of the birds shot on juvenile wheat and found allsorts inside wheat shoots, snails, grubs, grit and other strange stuff. We've had some cracking bags shot over green wheat so dont necessarily diregard it as a no-go area until summertime!
Will Beasley
i dont no wht i should do no i wanted to have good winter shooting. By the way Mahmood, if your looking for shooting right now you want to be looking at Set-aside fields or Rape, or even grass pastures. Our best results are coming from set-aside fields at the moment. In general the shooting is fantastic still. The farmers round here haven't gas-bangered the pigeons to death this year because the pigeons aren't hitting the rape so hard cos the'yre still feeding on stubbles so you can get a nice days shooting rather than the usual 40 shots and thats your lot trick that the pigeons seem to like doing over the winter months!
