Stealing from feeders

Recommended Posts

Feed has been vanishing from our club shoot feeders at what would be an alarming rate with the ground under snow. Members fixed a trail camera on the worst affected site and found of the almost 200 images only a handful showed pheasants. Up to four roe deer at a time were lapping the wheat and pellets from the tray feeders while a pair of badgers were scooping from the tray with their paws. Trays replaced springs last year to try and overcome this bu apparently it has not taken long for wildlife , whichj also included grey squirrels ans mice to become educated in their use. Time for barbed wire or pig mesh perhaps and get the Estate to cull some of the offenders, that is roe deer.

we had a similar thing with auto feeders, 25Kg on the floor over a 24hr period, the keeper kept watch, he didn`t have to wait long, a pair of Chaffinch arrived and perched on the spinner tray, they then proceeded to dig into the grain which normally sits waiting for the next spin, this constant pecking caused an avalanche, emptying the feeder in about 30mins. we had to fit small mesh guards to keep them off.

That's nature for you
