Stock refinishing

I have read this article, but what do you do if the stock is oil fininshed?

The gun furniture is very dark as if it has had many years of oiling; the grain is indestinguishable in some places where it is almost black. I'd just like to try and lighten it up a bit, bring out the grain a bit more, and put on a slightly glossier sheen.

Any ideas?

P.S. to moderators:

Sorry. I originally posted this in Tips & Tricks, but realise that this is the proper forum (this is a querry, not a tip), "...opinion of your guns, and how to keep them in good condition..."

Sorry :good:
