Blackbart
Anybody wired up a starter button for a motor ? Thinking of sticking one on the pajero as the ignition switch is playing up and rather than fit new ignition and mess about with 2 keys etc,i reckon fitting a push button switch is the way to go......unless that is a pain in the rs aswell ? ? Gunnerbob
If the ignition switch is able to turn on the ignition, all you need to do is wire a press starter switch to the solenoid, use a relay though
Blackbart
The ignition turns on but does not crank on position 2. There is 1 live at my starter relay (and i pressume there should be another 1 when i try to crank it) So can i just use this live to go through my starter button ? Gunnerbob
Back when I had probs,I used to short out the two terminals on the solenoid with a spanner to spin the starter, yup that's the one.
Blackbart
Me too ! The starting has been doing my nut in for ages. Sometimes if i turn the key to start the car and keep it held in position 2 it will eventually kick in and turn the car over, but as **** law goes this doesnt happen when you are in a hurry or sitting in the middle of a field in the pitch black ..... hence i am going to have to sort something. NIGHT SEARCHER
It`s all down to is the ignition switch (ie) the contacts inside the switch worn out. Or is it the starter solenoid that is worn out. Putting a starter button it will not work if the Solenoid is U/S. What year is the Pajero and is it a Transponder key. Try a wire from the live on the battery to the Solenoid if it works every time it`s the switch. Then get a starter button of Ebay and you should be sorted. Tried a direct feed to the solonoid and it turns over straight away. I have tested at the starter relay and i only have 1 live ( 4 pin relay) so somewhere between the ignition and starter relay there is a duff contact,so my best guess is the ignition switch worn out.
