thanks for all your input, what is amazing is that there seems to be quality issues associated with the brand name Berretta...not sure i want to be paying 1000 quid up for a 20 yr old gun on the other hand i dont want to pay the same for a new one with potential problems....bottom line is i am on a ltd budget so i guess you get what you pay for

I haven`t `touch wood` had any quality problems with my Silver Pigeon 1 (around 8 months old now) but can`t compare to a an older one as I`ve never had one. One thing to bear in mind is that as soon as 1 person has a problem nowadays is they go straight on an internet forum advertising it where as 20-30 years ago if the same percentage of guns had issues they would have been returned or fixed pretty much locally without the masses reading about it ? so by now any niggles would be sorted out and forgotten about.

Another thought though is if you pay £1000 for a 20yr old gun it will be certainly be proven and the chances are it will hold its value in the future. I myself bought my gun by looking at the fit and as I said before narrowed it down to 2 makes had I read about the supposed quality issues I may have gone the other way ? who knows ? but I`m happy with my Beretta. I`d go with what feels right for you within your budget.
