sloe gin

Hi there, i started some sloe gin off in october,and the other day after giving it a shake

I opened the bottle to have a smell at it.

All I could smell was almond extract.To cut a long story short,I'd put a full 50ml bottle

into the litre mix instead of a few drops.

Question is can I do anything about it now,like adding another litre of sloe gin without

anymore almond extract.

any help please.

think it may be gone unless you like strong almond flavour........... have made loads of sloe gin but never put almond in it

Oh my god! A full bottle?!

 

Probably need to make another 5-10 litres of sloe gin to dilute that now.

I once added almond essence, and after 6 months it sat on the surface and went "off" I had to skim the top off, so I could drink it.

seems a waste to bin it,

You may find that the essence will rise to the surface like it did with mine, and you can "skim" it off.

 

Can you see a yellow coloured layer on the surface before shaking it? (a bit like oil sits on water).

just looked at the brew, and yes theres an oil slick going on at the moment.

would you skim it off now, before it gets anymore of the flavour of the almond

into it ??.

Yes. I would. I didn't straight away, and it turned black! :-0
