Michaeli
Hi guys As I'm moving jobs and now using my holidays up I have from now untill Sunday off before starting my new job. So I'm looking to get out there and get some shooting in. Would love some duck / goose action. But also up for any other shooting. Free or paid (as long as not too much) and willing to travel up to 100 miles ish from Nottingham. If local I can return some rabbit shooting at night. Let me know what you have to offer Many thanks Michael
filzee
I would have a day with you this week mate but don't really know if much is about. I'm out lamping tonight so might ask a few of the farmers. Do you have any crow decoys? There are usually a few of the things about but i have no deeks for them. There are a few Geese knocking about but I have no idea what they are feeding on and i have no deeks for them either. Apart from that can't help with ducks as they are on the pond for saturday. Let me know mate Phil
Michaeli
Hi phill. I have about 6 full body crow seeks and 6 fud crow deeks. I have seen a lot of geese on left over stubble field near the Trent (Southwell / Newark) area. But I don't have and geese decoys. Let me know if there's much about but I would be well up for a day. filzee
As far as i know i have one field of left over stubble which is down by the river. I took a guy from here down there the other week with some deeks to have a go. We pulled a few close but didn't take a shot. They arn't feeding on the field anymore unfortunately. The only thing to do there is to get there for first light and sit in a ditch and hope they flight over, they may they may not. It would be a very early cold start and no promises of any birds showing. If you have the crow deeks then there is a good chance i can find somewhere to have a bash at them. I have never gone after them myself but i know the basic idea. I will have a word with a few guys and see if there is anything about and where. Thursday would probably be the best day for me. Michaeli
Hi phill. I don't mind getting there for first light and giving it a go. (first light is now 6-6:30am so not massively early) and if nothing shows then no worries we can have a go at the crows etc. Thursday is good for me. Let me know if its a go'er. filzee
Ok mate let me confirm that i am free and get some gear sorted and i will give you a bell tomorrow. I take it your on the same number. Not lamping now so might be goose flighting first thing, them crow bashing, then lamping all thursday. Might be a tired boy friday. If first light is 6-6:30 we would have to be there for about 5:30 at the latest i recon just to get settled in and build a little hide. As i say i can't promiss a goose as last time i went i saw a few but didn't take any. Don't forget to get some decent non-toxic cartridges just incase we do get a go. Something big enough to bring down a goose. Cheers
Michaeli
That sounds great. Yea I'm on the same number. I have some 36 gram No4 steel shot in my cart bag. Bought them at the start of the season just in case. Thanks again Michael
silver pigeon 3
I have some 36 gram No4 steel shot in my cart bag. Good luck if you get out guys, but they are not a goose cartridge and i only use 4's in steel for the smaller ducks or close mallard over splashes/ponds. To drop a goose flighting, not over decoys you should be looking at shot size 1 or bb in steel. The general rule of thumb is increase the shot size by 2 for steel, so your steel 4's are the equivalent of lead 6's.
