Lancs Lad
NTTF, had one of the girls at work ask a question about her doggy...............Said I knew someone that could possibly assist.... Here is her email. Cheers Crouchy! We got Harley, a 3-4yr old Collie cross from the Dog’s Home on the 22nd Dec. Initially she was very timid and unsure of everything. To be honest she is still like that in new situations and you really have to earn her trust, but recently especially over the last couple of days she has started barking deep and throaty when someone walks past our window/comes to our door/knocks next door. She then grumbles for a bit afterwards. She has also just started to do this when meeting other people out on walks (but only when its dark!). We haven’t shouted at her as we know this will make matters work, and obviously haven’t hit her or anything when she does it, she doesn’t respond to us saying ‘No’ when she’s doing it. On a couple of occasions we have put her in the other room then let her out when she has stopped/the person has gone, but this doesn’t seem to have made any difference. Someone has suggested spraying her with water and saying ‘No’ when she does it, but again as she is quite a timid dog I don’t know whether this would work. She seems to be doing this as she’s now settling in and getting territorial but I also think it might be because things make her jump! We would appreciate any help/advise you can give us.
