eeski
Hi, I bought a second hand 812 a while which stopped ejecting yesterday. I suspect that it just needs a proper clean. I've got the manual but really I've only got the barrels off and the part that switches between light and magnum loads. Any tips or links to what I should be doing and what I should be oiling or greasing ? I expect my local dealer would help but I'd like to have a crack myself. Cheers. Cockermax
Have a look on You Tube. Loads of videos on how to strip & clean a semi auto. Not neccesarily a Webley & Scott but they are all very similar. Got myself an 812 last year and had no issues with it. Make sure the 2 gas ports on the barrel are clear and the O ring is fitted correctly. Am sure some others with much more experience with semi's will explain it better. eeski
Thanks both - two cartridges in, first one fires but doesn't come out so the second cartridge doesn't load. I'll try another look on youTube. I'm pretty sure that the O ring is fitted ok but will take a look at the gas ports. I don't know where they are ! malantone
I was advised to use an aerosol Brake cleaning fluid to flush any crud from gun actions, I would think it would open the gas ports easily, When you find out where they are LOL Edited February 17, 2014 by malantone
kent
Ok a failure to cycle then! Undo the cap on the end of the forarm, remove barrel gas piston and parts (note order for re-assembly). The two ports are evient as tiny holes in the bottom of the barrel. clean them with fine copper wire and solvent if they are blocked, finish with a toothbrush or similar soakes again in solvent or WD40 / meths. Put the gas piston in a jar of Meths and leave 24 hrs to soften up the carbon and clean well after with an old toothbrush etc. Once cleaned a little light oil. The tunbe also needs a clean it should be smooth and shiny, free from any black carbon etc, try a green household sponge and WD40, tool cleaner etc. When finished just a little light oil. From the sounds of it the O ring will need swapping, don't need to be a Webley one (try plumbers or engineers merchants). Clean the action disassemble as applicable, get all the crud out, removing trigger and shell lifer to access the mag tube (which can be cleaned with a 12 ga cleaning mop or similar) Carefully inspect the slide bar that works the action for fractures (not uncommon in this model) replace or repair by professional welding if found. Re- assemble and don't let it get so bad again LOL Hope this helps its been a few years from when I last worked on one of these, so excuse any memory lapses. Auto failure is 99 out of 100 cases failure to clean and service, seen them so bad the gas pistons have been seized onto the mag tube as the dirt hardened up I was advised to use an aerosol Brake cleaning fluid to flush any crud from gun actions, I would think it would open the gas ports easily, When you find out where they are LOL yes but try a bit of wire to work it out at same time. Be careful with all solvents and fluids as they can remove finishes as well as crud.
