Ben W.
Took the rifle for its first proper outing this evening, checked the zero with a couple of shots which was all good. Got settled and after twenty minutes had what I thought was a very easy 30yd headshot however the POI was about 2" high, strange I thought. The next shot was a 50yd headshot for the first of the evening and then I missed three easy shots in a row. Something was definitely not right so I had a quick look at the ammo as I was filling up the five shot mag again and I was amazed at the state of some of the bullets. It looked like someone had taken a stanley knife and cut the tips of the bullets at a 45 degree angle, some of the heads were also completely loose and some were sat at an angle to the casing. I rarely inspect the ammo with detail unless comparing different brands and have been used to a high quality and accurate product from SK so I don't really check it before loading. Has anyone come across a similar problem before. Lot Number 034 46/2 048 3. I will definitely be checking my other boxes when I get back to the farm tomorrow. NickB65
I would take it back to the dealer and get them to check the rest of the batch or others in stock - he should swap it out for you. Never used SK only Winchesters and they seem to be constant and true.
kent
Sounds very strange I have been using them for years and never had any real faults. About the only thing I can say (which happens with every .22 made usually in higher percentages) is about 1-2% of bullets in a batch will print a good 2 MOA low at 100 yards. You can be putting in a tidy little test group and one of these poppers can be seen curving in and printing low, remember they are not individually hand made! Seems like a machine fault in your batch to me, it happens don't be put off
Ben W.
I have four other boxes which I will check shortly, I'll also take that particular box back and mention it to the dealer. In my opinion they are visually one of the best quality .22 ammunition available and my rifle prefers them to other manufacturers it's just unfortunate they are the most expensive at my RFD. I won't be put off by the bad box, went on to shoot nine rabbits with them in the end between 25-65 yards once I filtered the dodgy ones out. Just thought it was usual from an otherwise high quality ammo.
