DJL4
Yes ..... Don't rush things! And ..... If the Lab is the first dog your personally training (springer mentioned??), read a few books, watch a dvd or two, ask lots of questions and maybe contact a good local trainer for some one to one training. Enjoy your new friend, he'll repay you many times over IF you get things right. Good luck with him/her. DaveL
Longy0710
Don't do too much serious training straight away. Keep the play retrieves to 1-2 a day but try to encourage behaviours you will want in the future, i.e sitting before throwing a retrieve, holding a object, etc. once you are happy you have bonded with the dog etc DONT RUSH THE BASICS! Heel work, steadiness and sit stays are pretty dull but cut corners here and you will forever be trying to put them right. Most of all enjoy your dog and training him as that's the primary reason for most of us having dogs.

Berettacocker
I wouldn't let the pup over do the playing with the spaniel. Longy about right, but I'd add that you'd be better off training the dog by itself. Also watch Stan Harvey's lab training DVD, i used this for my first lab and she didn't turn out bad. Good luck mate
