kent
How can you have a Bad rabbit issue on 50 acres? without them coming in from neighbouring land? How can you fix that one? having two named shooters might become an issue if you both have grants for this one biddy bit of land, so get your answer for that thought out and held in reserve if the question comes up

Zetter
So I promised an update after I had had a good chat with the farmer and things are a bit clearer so to speak. Basically land is cleared for .22LR and he had had one for years. However he put in for a variation for .17HMR and his FEO was dubious about granting it as he considered from what I can gather the .17HMR a lot more powerful and with a greater carry risk if shot in the wrong area than the LR?? So the farmer to get the variation through got confirmation off his neighbour that he had permission to shoot over his land as well to pacify the FEO. Hence his comment that he didn't think I would have an issue getting .22LR and FAC air but not .17HMR. Upshot of it is he is happy to support my application for all three going forward and had offered to go through a risk assessment with me to confirm the areas I intent to shoot with the LR and HMR so we can agree on the safe backstops. All in all sounds a bit like the FEO not knowing the risk of the calibres and a bit of a reversal from what I have read recently on some FEOs actively supporting .17HMR as an initial grant rather than .22LR due to the perceived lesser risk of ricochet.
