hunterdave
Hi guys I was down the range today with my cz 452 varmint 17hmr and another shooter comented on how good m dm80 moderator was, soo I removed it to show him how if stiped down, opened it up and it was wet through, now I don't mean damp I mean wet, mush would be a good term as there was a lot of powder mixed in, I was shooting a mix of hormandy and remmington. Have any of you experiences with this before.
Beardo
The leftover residue from firing rounds through a moderator is hygroscopic (attracts water), which is part of the reason why it's always good to remove mods before storage.

Same here I always remove the moderator.Rimfires leave a lot of unburnt powder in moderators. A friend of mine never took off he's moderator off until he started losing zero.It took two of us to try twist the moderator off and the crown and part of the rifling was ********* He had to get it cut down about 3 inches and replace the moderator. Underdog
Water vapour is produced from the combustion too. Any small bore cartridge never generates enough heat to heat the barrel enough so as to stop water vapour condensing on the steel and mod. 22lr survives damage because of the bullet lube creating a protective barrier. Hornet suffers from this too.
