spandit
When I bought my rifle, second hand, the stock looked like someone had been playing cricket with it - the varnish was missing in places and an unattractive colour: Decided to strip the varnish off - not easy now they've banned the decent paintstripper - but after a lot of sanding & oiling (Tung oil) it's beginning to look a bit better: That big scratch seems to be quite deep and although I can't feel it with my fingernail, it's not sanding out. With the dents in the stock it was never going to look perfect but feels a lot classier now and should last for a few more years:
tedster
Nice work, have you tried steaming out the big scratch? Put a damp cloth over it and press on the toe of a hot iron, don't let the missus catch you!
spandit
I'd thought about steaming - is it too late now I've oiled it?
