Not as such in terms of size, they look more at the safety of the area. Type of surface, safe backstops, proximity to houses / buildings / public footpaths / highways. Your shooting position(s) will be crucial and if this is your first application you'll need to have done your homework on the land and be prepared to demonstrate where you would / wouldn't take your shots.

Also depends on what you're applying for. FAC air is a bit different to .22lr which is a bit different to 17HMR so this will also be taken into account.

Best of luck.

I know this sounds a bit pedantic but I don't mean it to be, it's meant to help.

To be granted an FAC you have to show good reason so you need to state what you are going to shoot and what is the best firearm to do it with.

Although I know you've said that you want it for hunting Rabbits, and I know what you mean by that, the best terms to use are Rabbit control or Vermin control. On the application you would put 'vermin control and other lawful quarry'.

As has been said, find out what is the most effective firearm to use on the land over which you wish to shoot. The firearms office should know what it is already cleared for or will decide on your application.

You'll understand from this that you need to get permission on a piece of land first then get the appropriate firearm for that land and your experience.

When I first applied (6yrs ago) I only had permission on my cousins land, about 12 acres half of which is planted with xmas trees. he wanted the Roe deer sorting as they were nipping out the tops of the trees, my first app was for .243 and .22rf for rabbits. the FEO seemed doubtful until I told him I would be putting High seats around the land, and pointed out arcs of fire. he then said it would be fine. The land is bordered by a lane and has three properties on the opposite side two fields away.

So anything is possible.
