BASC recommend ShootCert and it just cost me more than that (want to say £75), plus about £10 postage so I could send my docs to them. Very efficient - two days after receiving my notes they emailed me their confirmation.

Just to add to this, ShootCert took just 2 days to process my info and issue my medical cert. Not the cheapest, but can’t fault the service

Agree 100% here. That could have been an easy £60 profit for them, not to mention the others in my vicinity. Interestingly they stopped this support last month it seems and also won’t support the DVLC renewals, so not sure it’s totally anti-firearms related. You’d have thought commerciality would be a focus, but I presume my practice is running at a stinking profit and can afford to turn away such easy work.

I had exactly the same conversation with mine. Have a feeling they wouldn’t wake up to that fact if you burned £50 notes in the waiting room to illustrate the point about lost revenue, let alone staffing costs.

My GP practice refused to do it, so I’ve engaged ShootCert. I had to drop the three letters into reception (SARs and instructions on what to do with the records) and 5 days later I’ve had a call to collect them. I’ve explained that the instructions were to scan them and securely email the PDF to ShootCert but they’ve refused. I’ll have to go in and see them to instruct them to post the records to ShootCert instead. I don’t want to touch them and risk anyone accusing me of interfering with the records. My surgery have made this a bit of a ballache and done themselves out of £70, but still incurred the cost of researching and producing my notes. The business manager should probably take another look at this revenue stream as it could be handled so much more efficiently and provide and income, rather than a resource drain. Only bonus is that my renewal isn’t until November, so I’m ahead of the game.

My 10/22 hasn't been out of the cabinet since my CZ 455 arrived. Accuracy is ok (unless you upgrade to a Volquartsen type barrel) but as mentioned, doesn't hold a candle to the decent bolt actions. I use mine in the fields occasionally (when the quarry shows itself) but mostly on the range nowadays and there's no competition there - the CZ every single time.

I have a Wildcat mod for my .243 and being a cheapskate I also asked if my force would allow me to use on my .223 (negating the need for me to buy another one as it fits so well on both). They were fine with it and I'm happy with that. Best still get the sign off from your FLO then it's noted on your records (assuming they say yes) and you won't have any bother if stopped when you're out. cheers, Chuck

Buy the rifle and always think that your shot might ricochet just before you pull the trigger to ensure you're giving enough consideration to whether the shot is safe. Do the same with my .223 and .243 before I pull the trigger there too. Haven't had anyone pop up with a bullet in their backside as yet so just remember safety first and if in doubt, crack the air rifle out (for suitable quarry).

It's between £32 and £40 in / around Swindon from the two places I contacted. Size didn't matter but the valve type did (surface or scuba).

If it's a magnetic one like my new sign then I'd fully expect it to be removed and dropped down a local drain before the clampers took hold.

You come across them everywhere I'm afraid. They're usually less judgemental than the stuffy people on golf courses that wait for you to tee off. Chatting / noise will only put you off if you let it - try to blank it out and concentrate on your shot placement. Can't be any worse than the herd of fairy elephants that call themselves Brownies who squeal and stomp about three feet above our heads when shooting competition cards at my local rifle club. Block them out and crack on

Me too. Doesn't do me any harm to spend ten seconds loading up there where I know it's safe and it just forms part of my pre-shoot ritual / safety checks.

I was remarkably dainty and using a wooden cocktail stick it minimised the chance of stuffing something up or shorting any connections. It's worked for me and will keep it ticking over until September when this poor excuse for a telephone will be replaced

Not as such in terms of size, they look more at the safety of the area. Type of surface, safe backstops, proximity to houses / buildings / public footpaths / highways. Your shooting position(s) will be crucial and if this is your first application you'll need to have done your homework on the land and be prepared to demonstrate where you would / wouldn't take your shots. Also depends on what you're applying for. FAC air is a bit different to .22lr which is a bit different to 17HMR so this will also be taken into account. Best of luck.

I've had trouble recently and found a world of change by getting a little wooden cocktail stick and cleaning out the little port where the lightening cable plugs in. I pulled out 18 months of fluff from there and have found cables start to work properly again. Not saying it will definitely work for you but worth a shot before setting foot out of the door again or spending more money. Fingers crossed

Yes but having already paid attention to this particular clause In respect to the species listed at paragraph 2(i)(a) above, this licence can only be relied on in circumstances where the authorised person is satisfied that appropriate legal methods of resolving the problem such as scaring and proofing are either ineffective or impracticable. As long as there's thought about other ways to manage the issue before you resort to shooting then you've got a defence if someone challenges you. ​There was a thread recently about the GL and the approach to it (think it was on here) - worth a look for the OP as well.

Would be willing to bet as they were closing nearly two years ago then the stock would have been relocated a long while ago.

I'll have a variation going in within the next two weeks as well. Not in any rush so you just know it'll be turned around within a week haha.

Friend just approved and took c.9-10 weeks from start to finish (would have been more like 7 if he'd fitted his cabinet in time for the first visit).

This thread would be better targeted at The Hunting Life Forum. Plenty of people on there with a questionable approach
