What air rifles are easy/cheap to tune to with sub 12ftlbs to FAC?

As the title suggests, I am considering buying a multishot PCP but also in 2yrs or so apply for a FAC. So I was wondering whether any particular rifle was more FAC friendly, should I need to tune it up in later life. Obviously, I am not asking for plans or details on how to tune up a non fac rifle as such info shouldn't be published on this forum but I did wonder whether people are aware of any particular air rifles that when brought at 12ftlbs can be easily uprated to around the 30+ftlbs mark. Also this then brings me onto my next question, which is at what sort of ftlbs does a .177 go supersonic? As ideally i would love a .177 non fac but .22 fac.

Now I know my neighbour has a theoben rapid mk2 with custom annie and walther barrells so he has .177, .20 & .22 but can also dial the power up/down as required. So at the mo a theoben seems the best bet, however they are incredibly pricy!

basically I am just trying to maybe buy a gun now which should I get a FAC can be uprated without being replaced or costing a small fortune. As i would hate to buy a gun now then 1-3yrs later sell it and buy another, taking 2 wacks worth of depreciation. :good:

Thanks,

Dan

If you are worried about costs then go for a 12ft/lbs rifle that is within you budget for now and consider a .17/.177 calibre rimfire for your future FAC needs.

You'll get two rifles for your money!

If this doesn't float your boat then i suggest a Theoben Rapid or Daystate Air Wolf or Air Ranger.

A very pricy set up though!

I just like the fact that the FAC air rifles can be dialed up & down depending on the environment. Plus riochets are less likely and FLO should be happier issuing that as opposed to a RF. Althou yes its going to be pricey :good:

I have been considering an Fac powered air rifle recently but have been put off by the cost.

I was looking at about £1200 for rifle combo and charging gear.

Then i had a look at what rimfire rifles i could buy and you'd find it hard to spend that kind of money.

You can buy an amazing rifle with ammo bipod, slings and of course a gunsafe for that kind of money.

I wouldn't worry about choosing something that can be uprated later, it's normally a gunsmith or back to the factory job and will cost you anyway.

Pick a reasonable PCP secondhand so you buy it already depreciated, then either sell it to fund the FAC, or as I think will happen, you will have changed your mind about what you want 10 times by then and want something totally different.

This sport grabs you and what you want now won't be what you want in 2 years, trust me :good:

I know I suppose assuming I can get a .17HMR then I would have one instead and save enough to probably buy a .243 without glass as well!

I might just go for a second hand .177 (finding the .22 harder to shoot over diff distances due to trajectory) something like a AAs200 with 10 shot mag. Like the idea of having multi shot abilities, help when hide shooting, nothing like leaning up and breaking the barrel on the lightning to scare everything off within a mile radius!

Then maybe in a couple of years go for the .17hmr and .243 (or something else foxy) approach. By then will be in a proper job with a decent salary. :good:
