conradwhelan
HiI have recently acquired a Hardy Silex no2 4 1/2'' reel with a 2'' drum. Makers initials stamped are A H W (Arthur Wall). The reel appears to be in perfect condition with no filing marks. I am struggling to find any information on this 4 1/2'' silex no 2. I have the original box too, albeit old and slightly worn and faded in places. All the info I can find on the Silex 2 relates to reels up to 4 1/4'' in size.I am interested to know an idea of the date of manufacture (there is some old folded newspaper in box dated 1922) and an idea of the market value. Also should I consider cleaning it up with the vinegar / water mix that seems to work wonders or should I keep it with the patina that has established over the decades?I would appreciate anyones advice and comments to gain further knowledge about this reel. Many thanksConrad
