cleaner4hire
Hello all, I have a question about Harley my 8 month old ESS. Ive noticed that since we've had him he is very submissive towards other dogs - if we come across another dog he'll just lie on his back and let em bite him, jump all over him... you get the point. I've only seem him 'play' with maybe 8 - 9 dogs - which were mostly puppies or bitches. He is seems happy when he see's other dogs and will gladly approach them, but just flakes out when he gets to em. He was socialised whilst young and i am not aware of anything that would have made him behave like he does. Whilst im not overly concerned (he is a lovely dog and his training is coming on very well and tbh i'd rather him be submissive than aggressive) i was wondering if any other owners dogs acted the same and had any advice or info. Its more for his sake really - it seems as tho he is missing out on playing with the other dogs. Cheers c4h
Doggone
I think it's a self preservation thing based on his assessment of the situation; I have a lab pup now that is very boisterous with my younger dogs and her mum, but she is very submissive to the older matriarch types who have squared her up a time or two. Lovely to see nature in action sometimes. Like you say though it's better to have one like yours than an aggressive one. She'll get out of it as she matures, I'm sure. ROBLATCH
my advice would be to browse through previous post on dog training where you will come across many good tips from nttf and the likes
Andy75
c4h - my sprocker is the same, it really pees me off when he gets picked on so much. Will be borrowing brothers monster rotty soon to fend off terriers (yes i know) and the like that pick on him. let me know if you find a fix!
