staffyspen
Hi all, Does anyone shoot or have any experience of above ground? I'm looking at getting my son some tuition there, using his own gun and I'm looking for reviews? Hopefully his tuition there will lead to both him and myself joining the shoot and gaining experience. Squash wavy
Hi there. Yes I shoot there often and I'm a member to support the club. It's run by Abe and Mike who are both extremely good shots indeed. They do a fair bit of tuition for kids. They are good for introductory tuition and building on that. I often get advice from Abe on improvements I have to make on the skeet layout. They also have compact and 80 bird sporting. It's possibly the friendliest shoot around for me. Bacon butties and hot drinks available on the day from Dave the butcher. Parking is often a bit tricky. Not least due to 4x4s parking on the hardstanding when they could park on the mud. Drives me nuts!! Give them a try and be sure to post up your experience. They are running a Boxing Day shoot this year too. I had lessons here before I started shooting two years ago. Had tuition from Abe and then bought my own gun and carried on from there! Edited December 14, 2014 by Squash wavy
staffyspen
Cheers for that! We both had an introductory lesson at garlands but it's too far to make every week or so, cannon being 15 mins from where I live it easy. After he shot an o/u and semi he preferred the semi, possibly for weight reasons so I brought him a new 20g escort for his birthday. He shoots it with 50% success with pheasants being a fave of his at millride but I want him to progress in the sport. With my limited experience I feel I'm not qualified enough to teach him too much as I'm learning myself. Hopefully cannon is the place as I know a few lads say certain places are "clicky" and intimidating when your a novice. Regards

HDAV
I have shot there tidy sporting layout (had some manual traps and a trappers! last time i shot (this time last year)) Skeet is good but book early as the sun does sit low making it hard to see the clays.... Agree about the parking........ Numpties.... Edited December 15, 2014 by HDAV
Squash wavy
Yeah manual trapping still there but less so, they have a few high power Bowman traps but they are often used for the Compact layout. Prefer many of the manual trap stands. Though the high pheasant stand is brilliant.
