Pedro
As above, potential to buy a bike that's been imported, but has been in storage since it arrived, so never registered etc. How would I go about getting it road legal and approximate costs etc? All responses gratefully accepted! P.
huds78
Someone asked a similar question on T4 forum I belong regarding registering an import van and this was the reply he got. Its not my words so I don`t know how accurate the info is ? but its a start and I`d imagine for a bike its pretty much the same as a van. The van in question was from Ireland so not sure if that would a difference but anyways this is what he was told : "To import a vehicle from the Republic of Ireland you need:A V55/5 form from Swansea. Fill it up and include:-!) Valid UK MoT. MoT it on the Chassis Number.2) £55 Registration Fee,3) Cost of Six months Tax.4) Irish Reg book. (This mightn't be absolutely essential.).5) Valid current Insurance. Cover note OK.6) ID. Photo licence, Utility bill, Bank Statement etc. It's on the V55 Form.If the vehicle has been registered in an EU Country before and is over ten years old a certificate of conformity is not needed.Within about ten days they will tell you the assigned number and the V5 Reg to follow within four weeks.**Let HMRC know within a fortnight. Shouldn't cost anything but you will still need to register with them and open an account. They can fine you £50 /day after that. That's the basics. I'm not an expert." Hope this is of some help to you

Chris Bb
I knew a bloke who imported his car from Germany, he had to spend quite a bit getting it up to UK standards (apparently NOT the same as EU) including changing the speedo to MPH. On the other hand, the bloke next door has a "grey" import motorbike allowed in with no changes whatsoever, even still has a KPH only speedo. It doesn't make any sense.
