docholiday
Well, it was the last day of the season on our little shoot and the night beforeI was getting my gear together and realised I was down to my last box of 20 b cartridges, ok I thought take the 12 b as well and use the 20 in the morning and have the 12 b if required in the afternoon, it was the beaters day so wasn't expecting a huge amount of shooting. Next morning put all the gear and the two guns in the car and arrived at the shoot, mugs of coffee and general greetings and we are ready to go, into the landy and............. 2 guns but no cartridges. oh well borrowed a box and off we went for the day, nabbed three pheasants and a nice partridge for about ten shots. get to the end of the last drive and as I was walking to the guns, the guy who had generously given me a box was next to me so emptied the gun and my pockets to return what was left, contemplating a great day and season when 40 yds in front of me a cock gets up and goes ballistic, well This bird just goes straight up in the sunshine and keeps going, haven't seen a bird like that for years and I am standing there without a cartridge to play with, oh well there will always be next season !! Salop Matt
I nearly did the same as you doc, I remembered my cartridges but right at the end of a drive I could hear the beaters close and thought that was it, i removed my cartridges and low and behold a bird broke trew the trees i was wrong and didnt get the shot. I did make up for it though as I reloaded and had a cock and hen off the top of the bank within 20seconds of each other and within the last minute of the drive. Leason learnt....... Dont unload and assume thats it untill the whistle goes. ATB Matt
