jimmydean
Did a job such as this in our bathroom. we used natural stone tiles that were 'honed' for the walls and floor (travertine). the floor cracked where the joists were not nogged sufficiently and there was the highest usage/weight. Travertine is great for walls but not floor because of inherent weakness (low-grade marble). Definitely stainless screws and 25 % more than you think is sufficient . If thresholds allow, overlay any boards with the thickest marine ply you can fit up to 9 mm. I would seal the floor first with rubberised sealant before tiling, such as is used in wet rooms under tiles. Use solid stone (not 'honed' or thickish fired floor tiles). Small element tiling on webbing is good for shower floor profiles and use the best waterproof adhesive and grout. Our floor was very cold in the winter and an electrically heated floor (low level heat ) is a brilliant idea. Bigger tiles, consistent with the above is a quicker and easier job. In our bathroom 3 tiles cracked and, rather than take up the tiles and floor I used a grout which matched the tiles to tidy them up, now and again.
