Paul taylor
Eyup gents. Anyone on here fished the Trent at Church Laneham which is just down river from Dunham on Trent? Wondering what's in there and any helpful tips on tactics, what part of tides best to fish etc. cheers lads. P. T
Mr-Sheen
Not fished the stretch you are asking about, but spent a bit of time this winter fishing the pylon fields area. I found the winter to be very hit and miss which is odd as previously i had been very consistent throughout the winter. All i fish with is a simple cage feeder and a ground bait mix with minimal actual food content (until later in the year when the fish are feeding more heavily) and a 4ft combo link style hook link with either a pellet or boilie chop on the hook. Next year i will be giving more traditional methods such as trotting with maggot and caster a go instead as it seems my usual tactics have stopped working. Paul taylor
Cheers Mr Sheen. Spoken to a few who said it ain't fished too well near end of season but heard good things about this stretch. Seen loads of chub and roach in the drain leading into it so fingers crossed for the coming season.
Mr-Sheen
If there is a good rainfall, where the drain leads into the trent should be really good sport. I think i am going to target the carp on the trent this summer instead, a bit less pressure on those fish, but a few regularly get caught! Paul taylor
Must have read my mind about the drain, just walked dog down there and rivers up drain should hold fish if it's in flood I reckon. Plenty carp in Trent if you can find them, I had a 16lb 4oz common near Newark town centre many moon ago got a photo somewhere it was a beauty too. Good luck next season👍
Mr-Sheen
I think it definitely will, a nice paste wrapped pellet or something would work well. If you live close enough to walk the dog, have you thought about pre baiting it through the close season?
chris1961
Have you tried collingham had plenty of doubles on barrel lost a few big carp night time is best
Paul taylor
I have thought about it yes mate if I do I'll wait a while yet before I start or it'll cost me a fortune lol. May also cast a lead or feeder about without a hook length on to try and suss out depth, flow and whether there's any snags or rocks on bottom too before season starts
Mr-Sheen
Have you tried collingham had plenty of doubles on barrel lost a few big carp night time is best I have tried collingham, but the numbers of people there drive me mad. Although just downstream from the weir there are some very nice spots of slower water with some lovely overhanging tree's that look brilliant. It also seems a bit quieter down there. I have thought about it yes mate if I do I'll wait a while yet before I start or it'll cost me a fortune lol. May also cast a lead or feeder about without a hook length on to try and suss out depth, flow and whether there's any snags or rocks on bottom too before season starts I can imagine you would spend a fortune, the amount of bait you would need to put in for your target fish to actually find it would be huge given the flow and the number of smaller fish there! If its downstream of dunham its going to be snaggy, its full of trolleys down that way lol.
