Do you leave ur mods on the rifle or take it off. I recently rezeroed my .308 & when packing up I removed the mod, my m8 asked why & I said with the mod on its to long to go in the hard case, "well u just knocked it out of zero" he said. He reckons once zeroed the mod should never be removed. What about cleaning then,I take mod off to clean. He said if that the case I should rezero after cleaning.I've ad shotguns 40yr & rifles 10yr, never heard this before. I told him he was talking B------s, but he said no. Who's right.

Technicaly your M8 is right. Why not do a few tests fire a group remove mod and refit and see where your group is. You will probably find that you are not to far away but you may not be spot on. it depends what you are trying to shoot at what range as to hwether you find the differance acceptable or not. What you might do to ensure consistancy is get a strap spaner with a socket attatchment and fit the moderator with a torque wrench on a light srtting so it is as near as it can be each time you fit it. You should also torque your stock screws every time you remove it to ensure that you dont loose accuracy. Personaly if I have had my rifles striped down I like to check zero before I shoot live animals.

Is this an over-the-barrel type moderator such as a T8 etc. Because if it is then you should not leave it on for long periods of time due to the fact that you will get rust starting to build up on the barrel where it fits inside the mod’.

If you mate has had his fitted for a very long time without removal, then I think he may find something nasty underneath when he removes it. :good:

Would a very light coat of WD on the threads before assembly be enough to see off the dreaded?
