bobthenailer22
Hello all! I was wondering if anyone out there has made a magnet type carousel and if so what did they use to slow the motor down with? I made one about two years ago and it works very well, I used a vairable resistor that sombody gave to me to slow the motor down (car wiper motor). The resistor got very hot but worked ok but it finaly gave up the gost and burnt out. Not sure what the resistor rating was but it could not have been enougth. Does anyone know what i should be using and where do i get them from and as im a yorkshire man at heart how much do they cost?
tiercel
Go to a scrapyard and get a dashboad light dimmer switch. Or use the trigger off a 12v drill. Both have been known to work.
mescalero
if you want to do a really good job ...go to the nearest Radio Spares,by a speed controller capable of handling 12 volts get the wattage of the motor and the staff will make sure you get the right one .you can then vary speed to suit conditions
sean johnston
Or buy an 11 watt 2.2 ohm ceramic resistor, which i found slowed the wiper motor type rotors down to a reasonable speed. They cost around £1.00.
