scolopax
Just learnt that my farmer is dropping out of the ELS but not taking up tier three (?) whatever that is. So I presume by that all the current 4 and 6 m grass margins, wild bird covers etc will be going? Or is there a minimum environmental requirement all arable farmers must meet even if not in a scheme? i.e. 2 meter margins?
Captain Caveman
There are some environmental requirements if he has BPS entitlements. If he has significant arable land he may have to meet the 'greening' condition. I've just applied for a mid-tier countryside stewardship agreement, which wasn't too onerous. I'm informed by our NE adviser that higher tier is competitive with funding being allocated according to regional habitat/species priorities.
