fse10
Well was up on the Solway for the start , staying at ladyhall. Watched the geese flight in at sanhope so headed there for the morning flight. Got down on to the marsh for first light looking for a hidie hole to get in and with every few yards we walked, another head would pop up. Must of been 40 plus guns out, we walked down a bit more & found a nice reed bed to get in,the geese started to move but 500 yards to our left & at least 150yrds up. It was like a seen out of WW2 shots going off all over. After seeing a few hundred birds lift but all well wide of me & my shooting buddy two grays started to head towards us almost in range & two heads pop up in front of us & downed both. Twenty minutes later & a skien come over, gun in front lets off three shots misses with all three my mate smack's one out of the air & it drops to the right of the reed bed he go's to pick it up & the guy who let the three shots off has sent his dog on it. My mate says thanks for picking up my bird guy says i shot that , my mate says well you must of given it a hart attack then as none dropped after you had let off three shots yet i hit it when it was over me but if you need a bird that bad keep it! Well over the next three days every spot we picked the birds flew in & out from the marsh from no two same spots. Then the day before we were due to leave my mates, mate popped round & said the geese had flighted in over his house the last two nights he lives right next to the marsh. So we get there just as the light is fading we get to the marsh at the back of his house & there's two blokes there but my mate knows both of them as he's been shoot up there for eight years so we sit & chat for a bit after about twenty minutes we can hear the geese calling to we head to our spots just get in to place & over they came pulled my gun up picked my bird & bang dead in the air & dropped like a stone. A long few days but my first foreshore goose one very happy camper . May well be back up in October to try for a few pinks. dawntredder
Well done on your perseverance you got your bird in the end...I stopped going years ago because of so called fowlers shooting at birds that were in the mile high club and also some very ignorant people!
