HW95 Beginners Questions

Hello all,

This is my first post so apologies if I've not posted in the correct section.

I'm new to air gunning and just bought my first rifle. I picked up a used HW95 from a friend of a friend for £60 which seems to be a good price having since read up on the gun. It came with a Hawke 3-9x40 scope, a bag and some pellets as well.

The rifle has been well looked after by the sounds of it, and there are almost no marks on it- but being used it's not perfect.

I've got a few questions, and if anyone could give me some pointers it'd be very much appreciated!

First off, the only (potential) issue I can see with the rifle is a little bit of play on the cocking lever. It's riveted on, so I'm not sure if this can be tightened or would need drilling out maybe? Has anyone ever had this problem, and would it affect usage at all?

Secondly, the bloke I bought the gun from said that it hadn't been serviced for a good few years and could do with being cleaned/regreased etc. There's no chance I am going to tackle this myself, so how much roughly would I be looking at to get this done professionally? I live in East Northants and don't know of anywhere near me that services air guns.

Thirdly, about the only visible damage on the rifle is the gold paint on the trigger has peeled away on one side. It's a non-issue regarding usage, but given that the gun is practically immaculate other than this, I wouldn't mind getting it sorted. Is it possible to order parts for these, or should I just repaint it myself? According to YouTube, the trigger mechanism can be removed without taking the whole gun to bits, so seems like it wouldn't be much of a job.

Apologies for the long post and boring newbie questions, but as I said, any help/advice would be very much appreciated!

Cheers!

There needs to be a little play in the cocking linkage so unless it is severe I would not worry .

You stole it at £60 I would say its is worth nearer £200-£250 .

I would recommend you have a word with Tony at sandwell fieldsports and send it to him for a stage one tune , cost is around £70 plus the postage each way , it will transform the gun and you will still be quids in !

Thanks for the reply- does sound like I got a good deal then :-D

I don't suppose you know of any other places that do tuning? I'm based in Thrapston (east Northamptonshire)- is there any one in my area you know of?

Fair enough mate. I'm definitely intending on keeping the gun so I will take a look into that. Just Googled them and they're not actually very far from me.

Cheers!

I will warn you if you decide to take it to them then you will have a bit of a wait (weeks) until its ready .

They are held in such high regard they always have a long list of guns to get through.

Highly recommend Tony Wall at Sandwell Field Sports. I went for a stage 2 tune on my HW 77k. Totally transformed the gun!. He had my rifle for around 11 weeks i think. I dropped it of as i was in the West Bromwich area in April this year. They could'nt have been more helpful on that Saturday morning when i dropped the rifle off. As i live in the north east they sent the rifle back to me and i was impressed with the care they took to pack the rifle. Thoroughly recommend Tony but as has been said be prepared to wait and be patient. Its worth it :good:

ATB,

Pat
