  1. I have a Magnus Sporter and would like to echo the other comments. A lovely gun with finish better then Beretta and Browning Guns that are in the same price range. I originally looked at the b725 black edition, which was a nice gun and fitted well and also a Beretta 690 111 sport at last years shooting show. Then visited CG stand and got talking to Kevin Gill. My mate and i looked at the Guerinni Summit. A lovely gun. Picked it up and wow!! My mind was made up but in the end i opted for a Magnus sporter with lovely game scene sideplates. I use the gun for clays and game shooting. I did'nt buy new. I ended up getting a magnus that was 10 months old. In original case with all chokes and gun socks and tools etc. A saving of £700 against the new price. I would look at a used gun for true value for money. Added to the fact that the 10 year warranty is transferable you can't go wrong. My shooting buddy ended up buying a Magnus sporter also but his has the 32" barrels. Again a used example that he picked up at last years CLA . He shot really well last season with it. One of my clay shooting pals has the Summit Accsent with the high rib. Moved on from a Blaser and his scores have improved and he's jumped up a class too. Says it all really. I like owning a CG as well becuase its something a little different from your Berettas, Brownings and Miroku's as well. Not knocking them though because they are all good guns in their own right. You wont go wrong with a CG though ATB, pat
  2. I have a Seeland Keeper jacket and trousers. Had them for 2 seasons. Last season it "wetted out" . Reproofed with Nikwash . I have since upgraded to Harkila Pro Hunter X jacket and trousers for this season. Expensive yes but i wish i'd bought Harkila from the start. Would have been Cheaper in the long run. You can tell the difference in quality but then you would expect that given the price tag. It comes down to budget of course and what you can afford but being dry and warm is the difference to enjoying your day and being able to stop out longer. ATB, Pat
  3. After some info from perhaps someone who has fitted a Boyds stock to their CZ 452 17 HMR. I would like to replace the factory stock on my rifle, Ideally i would have prefered a thumbhole version, however they come in at $129 and Boyds can't export anything over $100. I emailed Boyds and they were quick to reply. Options include a stock that comes without any inletting which i don't want, go through one of their international dealers, which is rimfire magic or go for one of their sales stocks. They don't have a thumbhole stock in the sale but they do have the sporter version at $89. Fits the bill and can be exported no problem. Now heres the thing. Boyds don't list the CZ452 in hmr they only list a 452 in 22wmr so this is the big question, is the action absolutely identical on a 22wmr as it is on a 17hmr. Personally i think it will be as its the same case i.e necked down to accept the 17 bullet. Any help and definate answers will be greatly appreciated. I do intend speaking to Rimfire magic on Thursday when they open. ATB, Pat
  4. I have owned a Prosport and now own a HW77k witha stage 2 tune by Sandwell Field Sports. My brother owned a TX HC. Personally i did'nt like the TX because of the bear trap button on the side. I much prefered the Prosport. Easier to load and generally a better looking rifle IMO. However i'm not knocking the TX because it is a good well made rifle witha strong following. Initially the new 77k didnt compare too well to the Prosport out of the box. Aftyer 4 tins of pellets it was sent to Tony Wall at Sandwell . That was when the rifle became better than my Prosport was. Smoother and Tony also tuned the already excellent Rekord trigger. Results still amazing in all honesty. Like a couple of people have sais though you really need to have a look at both rifles and go with what feels right for you. Whichever you choose you won't be disappointed. I second the opinion that you don't need a silencer on a springer either. My 77k is'nt particularly loud at all. Hope this helps ATB, Pat
  5. I'm sorry to hear this UD. The replies on here have been great and i know everyone has your best intentions at heart but my advice would be to seek advice from a dedicated employment solicitor. I admire your restraint for not getting involved in violence and ending up with a possible assault charge. That does't bare thinking about!! Losing your hobby as well.. Threats of violence and and reprisals should be put in the hands of the police though. If its any consolation mate it sounds like you're better off out of that horrible place you work. Take your services elsewhere where they'll be hopefully more appreciated. Good luck ATB, Pat
  6. Argh well in that case it would have to be a 30/30 underlever and an HW80 or 77k ATB, Pat
  7. Theres a minted one (or what looks to be) on Guntrader for £400. You think thats a good buy Colin? ATB, Pat
  8. Many thanks for the replies Certainly a lot of food for thought. I intend probably doing a PX on this future purchase. Thinking of letting the HMR go and using the 222 for Fox and long Range corvids etc. I have the 243 for stalking here in England and thought a 222 would fit in nice between my 22lr and my 243 added to the fact i can use it for Roe stalking across the border if i wish. One of my permissions is very windy and the little 17gr pill of the hummer struggles when stretching its limbs. I had for some time considered the 17 Hornet but again with a small light bullet i think i'll not gain much over the Hummer in reality? So when my ticket came up for renewal last year i plumped for the free variation and added the triple. I have looked at the Weihrauchs and the Heavy barrel version does look a quality rifle. The rifle will be a walking Varmint tool and also used from a static position and a vehicle. I could probably live with a heavy barrel when all things considered. I intend to use the rifle with a scope too rather than NV. The Steyr Pro Hunters look Favourable too? Any thoughts on that one welcomed? ATB, Pat
  9. Evening gents, I've got a slot on my ticket for a triple and have looked around for some decent rifles, holding out for one that really catches my eye. I've really got a fancy for a really nice Sako75 and theres a deluxe model at the moment on Guntrader. However i've also seen some nice Tikka T3 both in lite and varmint flavours and locally there is a really nice CZ527 for sale. However i've also seen a nice Steyr Prohunter. So your thoughts and and advice would be much appreciated although i'm in no hurry to rush out and buy straight away ATB, Pat
  10. Yup. I've said this before UD and maintain that there has been more Fox shot over the years with 22lr than anything else!!! Long before all this minimum calibre requirement tosh. Sensible ranges and the 22lr is the perfect tool. Nice work Belly as well. Perfect shot placement. Excellent pics as a well. Well done ATB, Pat
  11. Everyone seems to be calling the Eley Selects. Now i'm wondering if everyone is refering to the "New" Eley First Selects or the old Eley Firsts which i admit i was never a fan of. The reason i ask is because i've been using the new Eley First Selects of late and find them one of the cleanest and smoothest shooting budget clay cartridges out there if i'm honest. I bought 750 plastic and 250 fibre and never have a problem cleaning my Ceaser Guerini. These new First selects are a 65mm case as well by the way. Just curious because like i say i'm finding these cartridges very good with excellent patterns and consistent breaks ATB, Pat
  12. Exactly Davyo. This thread is getting silly. And some of the posts are quite alarming if i'm honest . Threats of violence, particularly by people holding FAC's and SGC's should be reported. There is simply no excuse regardless. This is an open forum and all and sundry have access to it. Don't give antis fuel for the fire!!!!! ATB, Pat
  13. That is absolutely spot on!!!! However there is a way to speak to people and using the threat of violence is not one of them . You speak to people the way you yourself like to be spoken to. More so when the underkeeper probably has a SGC and FAC and to use threatening violence could see him losing his tickets. Thats a sure fire way of him losing the roof over his head just as much as poor shoot days. ATB, Pat
  14. Have you applied for an FAC because you have a need to use firearms on a permission/land ?. Or are you looking at wanting to use your firearms for a spot of range shooting as well . A little more detail is required to give you a more accurate answer. If you want to join a club to aquire your FAC you will need to do a 6 month probationary period and be mentored by a suitably qualified Club official. On completion of your probationary period and providing you have satisfied your club that you are competent you will be signed off and be in the position to apply for your FAC. If you are initially applying for your FAC for sporting purposes you may be required to have a mentor but this is certainly not always the case and will be judged on an individual basis and circumstances. Remember also that if your certificate is granted for sporting purposes you will have a condition for expanding ammunition. You will not be able to use expanding ammuntion on an MOD range or any indoor range. Katzenjammer has covered the clubs available within the Teeside area. Clubs from Durham upwards tend to use Ponteland and Otterburn. Sadly the MOD range at Whitburn has now gone and is currently an ongoing new housing development. It used to be a great Range inbetween Catterick and Ponteland, ATB, Pat
  15. Yes they certainly were happy Days Steve. I also owned a S&W 686 6" and it was also my favourite . I also owned a 9mm Beretta 92 and .22 Ruger MK2 target but the 686 357 was something else. I'm sure the OP will enjoy his new purchase but i have never fancied a LBR or LBP. Just doesn't appeal to me having the extension on the grip and the long barrel. Probably something to do with having shot handguns the way they were intended to be. Arghhhhh, happy days ATB, Pat
  16. The 99 is an affordable no nonsense springer which is overlooked in favour of the 95. However get yourself a Sandwell Field Sports 99 which is fettled by them and re sold as the IMP and you've got yourself a proper springer that will match any other offerings and even smoother than any Airarms. My 77k is a stage 2 done by Sandwell and its better than my previous Airarms Prosport. No Kidding!!!! An IMP will be a little over your £300 budget though unless you are extremely lucky enough to pick a used example up ATB, Pat
  17. Which ever one your individual rifle prefers. Sk subs are brilliant. Try RWS, Eleys, Winchesters, and Fiocchi and then decide which suits your rifle best and gives the best results. Have fun ATB, Pat
  18. +1 for Yokohama Geolander At's. I have these on my Grand Vitara and great on and off road. Recommend ATB, pat
  19. +1 on the NM800. Pricey but well worth it imo. I was in the same boat as you. Looking for a scope mountable light as was sick of heaving a lead acid battery pack and leads around. Best thing i ever did getting the NM800. Go for the dimable version though ATB, Pat
  20. You sure do get your moneys worth out of that WMR UD. Good shooting off hand mate. Lovely dog too ATB, Pat
  21. My one and only pcp is my AAs410 carbine in 177 that i've had for 8 years. Does everything i could ask for from a sub 12 ft lb air rifle. I like the hW100 and the Daystate Huntsman or Regal as i think it's called now? but i could'nt justify the cost to change as i don't use air rifles much for hunting. My favourite all tiime spring gun has to be my HW 77k stage 2 tuned by Sandwell Field Sports. That is a lovely spring gun to shoot. It knocks the spots off any spring gun i've owned including an AA prosport. ATB, Pat
  22. 22lr or HMR? Did you clean the barrel before you started zeroing? I've always cleaned any new rifle prior to zeroing it. Gets rid of any oil/grease applied during packaging. Just a thought especially when you say the groups started closing up. I would give it a good clean and start again mate, as well as checking stock screws and scope mounts for tightness. See how that goes before returning to RFD, ATB, Pat
  23. Have a look at Emma Custom Rifles website mate. They have an excellent selection of "quality used optics" that may fall into your price range. The last time i looked they had some nice used Pecar's on there that would fall into you budget and waaaaaaaaaay better than any offering from Falcon, mtc or Hawke . Some may be old but what the hell. They are quality scopes!!! ATB, Pat
