AberFowl
Looking at buying a 2007 Nissan pathfinder Mainly Road use. Drive through the odd boggy field and down some rough old farm tracks How fit are these motors for off road? And what like on the road? stuey
I had a 2005 pathfinder SVE. Bought with 37,000 on the clock and sold with 97,000. Servicing was every 18,000/2 yrs, but I got it done annually at about 12,000 intervals. Non service items were a full set of disks and pads when I bought it and a set of General Grabber AT2's which were still fine when I sold it after 50k miles. Areas to watch for: Rust either side of the boot finisher ( handle ). AC pipe work corrosion. Get under the rear drivers wheel and locate an aluminium pipe approx 10mm. It has a rubber support on it around about the wheel arch and it causes the pipe to corrode and leak as damp gets trapped. It is apparently a body off the chassis job to replace and about £1200 !!!! Engine cutting out when changing gear / dropping clutch approaching junctions is often a dirty maf sensor - clear with electrical contact usually sorts that. Going into limp home mode when accelerating hard in 1st to 2nd can be linked to suction control valve - about a £120 part to replace. Check clutch for juddering and slip on a slight slope. Slip is most noticeable in 3rd gear WOT at about 1800 revs onwards. Jumping out of cruise control can be a sign of a cracked pedal box as it puts the sensors out of line. Overall, really reliable. I averaged about 35 mpg and had up to 40 on a run. Fast vehicle despite the weight with 170 bhp with masses of space inside esp with the seats down. Off road with the grabbers it was spot on too. Did plenty of lamping in mine and also took it off-roading around the Yorkshire moors and it coped admirably. Electronic 4x4 sometimes struggled to cope with really muddy conditions, but saying that I got through a rea.ly muddy patch toeing a trailer whilst a Range Rover with fancy electronics got stuck and needed towing out!!! Would have another one without a second thought. Best car I've had. Usually change every 6 months to a year but had my pathfinder for 4 1/2 yrs!!! eieieio
I'm thinking of getting one of these. Was looking at a Defender or an L200 pick-up but the Pathfinder look better as an all round vehicle. They do seem to be about £3k more expensive than a Navara with similar mileage 2nd hand though. Is there anything similar that is worth a look?
