McSpredder Posted November 20, 2015 Report Share Posted November 20, 2015 The traditional repair would have been a brass plate(both sides), similar to the modern glued option shown.That would have been a proper gunsmith's job. I recall seeing quite a few stocks back in the 1950s that had been repaired by binding with brass or copper wire. I have read that the best material for reinforcing a broken stock was reckoned to be the skin from an elephants ear, which apparently shrinks to a very tight fit, but cannot claim to have witnessed that for myself.
